  • Gmail and Yahoo Requirements Guide for Senders

Starting in February 2024, Gmail and Yahoo will begin enforcing a few requirements for senders.

You can review the full list of requirements on their pages below:

While some requirements may primarily affect those who are sending 5,000 or more messages a day. For smaller senders, it’s still a good idea to work towards these requirements as they could be required for all in the future. They’ll also help your mail be as inbox-friendly as possible.

Many of the requirements (such as “one-click unsubscribe”) aren’t something you’ll have to worry about as we already have you covered.

However, there are a few things you’ll want to do to ensure you are compliant:

    1. You should send mail using a custom-domain and ensure your domain is SPF and DKIM aligned to send mail via Mad Mimi by adding these DNS records to your domain.

    2. You should add a DMARC record to your sender domain. Gmail and Yahoo are not requiring a strict policy, so it can be a policy of “p=none”. If you’re unsure how to add a DMARC policy, you may want to reach out to your domain provider for further assistance. Or, consider using an online DMARC policy generator to create one.

    3. Keep your spam rates low. This one goes for all senders. We’ve always recommended keeping spam rates below 0.1% to ensure you get the best email deliverability. Gmail and Yahoo are now stating that they’ll be enforcing a spam rate below 0.3%. High spam rates are much more likely to cause your future mail to be sent to spam or rejected.

We provide spam complaint reports for many mailbox providers in your stats results for you to monitor. However, Gmail does not actually provide individual spam complaint reports (also known as Feedback Loops). If you wish to track your own Gmail related complaints you can try using their Google Postmaster Tools (it’s free). They’ll provide aggregated spam reports for your domain to review.

To avoid spam complaints, it’s best to follow best practices.
