Email Marketing CPM: Mailing Credits + Cost Per Mille
In email marketing CPM stands for cost per mille, or cost per thousand emails. Here at Mad Mimi, we use CPM pricing for additional mailing credit purchase beyond what’s included in your regular plan cost. Many of Mad Mimi’s email plans offer unlimited sends, but the higher service levels–starting at the 75,000 contact plan–have a limited number of mailing credits. This means, aside from the contact limit, your account has a limited number of emails it can send each month.
The mailing limit is 10 times your account’s contact limit. For example, if you have a 75,000 contact plan, you get to send 750,000 emails per month.
How Do I View My Mailing Credit Balance?
When you send a promotion, the number of emails you send in that campaign are deducted from the total number of mailing credits in your account. If you have 750,000 credits included with your plan each month and you send a promotion to 75,000 contacts, you’ll have 675,000 credits remaining. If you send to a smaller segment of your list, only that number would be deducted from your total number of mailing credits.
To see how many mailing credits you have left in your account, just click on Account at the top of any page and check out the details on the right.
How Do I Purchase More Mailing Credits? What is the Cost?
From your Account’s Billing tab, you can always see how many credits you have left for the month, how many you’ve used so far this month, and purchase more if you’re running low. The cost to purchase additional mailing credits is $0.40 per 1,000 email credits.
So if you needed, say, 10,000 mailing credits to send your email campaign to the rest of your list, it would cost $4. Purchased mailing credits never expire, so if you purchase more than you need, they’ll carry over to next month’s balance.
If you click “send” on an email campaign and you don’t have enough mailing credits to complete it, you’ll get a pop up box prompting you to buy more mailing credits.
Don’t worry! Mad Mimi won’t ever automatically charge you for additional mailing credits. You’ll always confirm the number of mailing credits you want to buy and will always have the option to delay further mailings until your new billing cycle starts instead of purchasing additional credits.
Do You Offer Alternative Pricing Options?
If you send a lot more than 10 email campaigns to your full list each month, a higher plan level that includes more mailing credits might turn out to be a better deal than a smaller plan that fits your list size, but requires you to purchase a lot of additional credits each month.
Feel free to email us if you think this might apply to your account. Our billing team will do the math and let you know. Just make sure to include: The size of your list + How many mailing credits you expect to use each month in your email :)
